SEGA could be bringing back theme parks to the west
SEGA has sure been on a roll with all of their announcements lately. Last week, we got a new Virtua Fighter announcement AND a bunch of Sonic game news. YouTuber Sonic Badnik Mechanic may have come across another interesting bit of news, theme park goers may want to hear.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, you may remember their chain of amusement areas called SEGA World. Sonic the Hedgehog was prominent featured throughout these parks, with a variety of arcades and other attractions families could enjoy inside. This was a fairly short-lived venture, with most chains closing following the global decline in arcade interests from the early 2000s.
YouTube Sonic Badnik Mechanic discovered some interesting news through CA Technology Group, which touts potential plans for a theme park revival. While SEGA Joypolis has continued to exist in Japan and China, they plan to expand these parks to western audiences as well.
Here’s some additional info from The Standard:
“CA SEGA JOYPOLIS is an indoor amusement park operated by CA SEGA JOYPOLIS, which opened in Yokohama. Japan There are hit rides such as the Gekion Live Coaster, the giant halfpipe swing, the Wild River The Treasure Hunt, and the state-of-the-art simulator that offers a fun 3D, 4D and VR experience. Another kind of fun.
“Currently, CA SEGA JOYPOLIS has been dominating the hearts of Japanese people for over 27 years, with branches in Japan, China and plans to expand to Europe, America and Australia. in the near future”
I personally have not experience SEGA World any any variations of SEGA’s old arcade parks. If they actually do come over to the United States *coughChicagocough* I’ll be the first in line. Would you be interested in a SEGA amusement park? Let us know in the comments below!
