SEGA Pluto up for auction

The gaming industry was captivated recently by a former SEGA employee who posted pictures of a previously unknown SEGA system called the Pluto, which was a hybrid SEGA Saturn with an internal NetLink. Not too long after, a second Pluto system popped up, this one being the first prototype system.

Now, its owner, Roger Vega, has put the first prototype SEGA Pluto up for auction on GameGavel.com. Currently, there have been three bids, and the price is at $7,600 with about five more days to go.

In his listing, Vega wrote, “Due to a really unknown value for such an item (only two known to exist!) I have covered all my bases to learn more about what its value may be.  So, I have a hidden high reserve AND I am starting the bidding at $1.  So bid what you think the value is and that way we can all get a more accurate picture of the demand and value for this nearly one-of-a-kind item.”

It appears that he’s using the auction more as a gauge to see the console’s true worth, rather than looking to actually sell it at this time. Who knows what the reserve price is, but if it’s met, it will be interesting to see if he ends up selling the console.
