SEGA the Fastest in the World!?PC sweepstakes kicks off with speed
If you have a Steam account, you have probably been inundated with emails about the platform’s massive Winter Sale 2021. The deals are endless, from games to RPG Maker software, and boy is it hard to resist buying all 180 of my Wishlist titles. Well, if you live in Japan, the deals just got a bit speedier. SEGA, known for going faster, faster, faster, has teamed up with Intel, ASRock and G Force to create a PC that can zoom passed the competition, literally. Welcome to “SEGA the Fastest in the World!?PC” sweepstakes.
The fun and unique amalgamation of computer and RC car boasts some impressive specs. The hardware consists of an Intel Core i9-12900K processor, ASRock’s Radeon RX 6900 XTOC Formula 16GB graphics card, an ASRock Z690M-ITX/ax motherboard, 32GB KIT DDR4-3200 (2×16 GB) in memory and a 2TB SSD. With the latest tech inside, the PC has already recorded a benchmark score of 20828 from 3DMARK Time Spy. Overall retail value for the guts alone is a little over $3,000 USD.
Burn Rubber, Baby!
That’s not including the price of the housing or the wheels. Let’s talk about those wheels, shall we? Famed RC builder and 18-time world champion racer, Masami Hirosaka, in cooperation with G Force, designed the wheels to take “SEGA the Fastest in the World!?PC” to new speeds. On the track, the PC RC clocked in at 62mp/h (100km/h). I can only imagine the looks on passersby as it drives on by!
In addition to the PC, the prize included 23 SEGA/Steam titles per person. Fan favorites like BAYONETTA, the entire Yakuza series and Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster are among those listed. SEGA assures winners that “the Fastest in the World!?PC” can handle each game with speed and clarity.
Here for the wonky!
It’s true- the design is kinda janky, mostly resembling a Sonic box on wheels. There’s also the question about durability (seriously, if you’ve ever driven RC’s, they tend to crash). And it should be noted that the disclaimer on SEGA’s website says “this prize (SEGA the Fastest in the World!?PC) is one of the joke goods. Please note that we do not guarantee the performance of the prize and cannot accept replacement, cash, return, after-sales support, etc.” But all of this aside, having an admittedly remarkable piece of gaming history is pretty darn cool.
So, residents in Japan: hop on Twitter, follow SEGA’s official Twitter account and retweet their Tweet before January 5, 2022, and you just might be lucky in the new year!
And if you do happen to win, let us know!
