SEGA to shut down Chain Chronicle in the West

We hope you played Chain Chronicle when you had the chance because SEGA is shutting down the game.

A Gumi representative posted the news on the official Chain Chronicle forums today. Effective immediately, the game has been removed from the App Store and Google Play Store, and there will be no more sale of Prysma, however, players can continue to use Prysma they currently have. The game will continue to operate until Feb. 28 at midnight PST.

Gumi is also looking into ways to refund players with unused Prysma.

“It was a very hard choice to make, but despite the overwhelming support of our loyal fan base, it was the way it had to go,” the post announced. “We appreciate your participation in what ended up being a very positive experience for us all, and we would like you all to know that it was thanks to you that Chain Chronicle Global made it as far as it did.”

The news of the closure certainly surprises us as the game has been a massive success in Japan, and Gumi announced it reached one million users last May. A huge “version 2.0” update for the game was released in October that overhauled the user interface, added new characters and items, and opened up an entirely new continent.

It seems it wasn’t enough for SEGA to continue to support the game, though. Definitely sad news for those of us who enjoyed Chain Chronicle.
