SEGA ‘to take necessary action’ to stop eLicense YouTube claims

A new round of copyright claims have hit many YouTubers who use certain audio and video from SEGA games in their uploads. The Content ID claims have come from a Japanese company called eLicense, and some have speculated the company might either be acting independently from SEGA or acting on SEGA’s behalf to file the claims.

However, according to a tweet by SEGA today, it appears to be the former.

@RealYoshiller eLicense is acting independently and Sega intends to take the necessary action to stop their claims on YouTube.

This isn’t the first time YouTubers have had trouble with their SEGA videos. In December 2012, SEGA began filing claims against Shining Force videos all across YouTube, and again several months later. Thankfully, SEGA got it all sorted out and said they wouldn’t be handling Content ID complaints anymore, which is why the recent issue caught everyone off-guard.
