SEGA: We have decided to not attend E3
Welp, as much as I hate to admit it, it appears The Requiem was correct. SEGA won’t be attending E3 this year, as they released a statement to Game Informer today confirming as much.
“Over the next months, SEGA of America will be focusing on the restructure and relocation to Southern California, and we have decided to not attend E3 with our own booth this year,” a representative told Game Informer.
“With the majority of our bigger titles launching later in 2015/2016, particularly those from our AAA studios Relic Entertainment, Sports Interactive and Creative Assembly, we are concentrating our efforts for some of these major announcements after our relocation,” the representative continued. “Instead, we will be collaborating with our various business partners for this year’s E3 show.”
This will be the first time in memory SEGA has not attended E3. However, that doesn’t mean SEGA games won’t be shown during the event, as they could be featured during Sony’s, Microsoft’s or Nintendo’s conferences.
As for games that might be shown, we know Creative Assembly is currently working on Total War: WARHAMMER, but we can only assume Relic is working on a Company of Heroes follow-up, and Sports Interactive is busy churning out another entry in the Football Manager series, all popular PC games, which SEGA has said will be a major focus of the company going forward.
Outside of that, SEGA doesn’t have any major games that have been announced, other than localizing Yakuza 5, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax and Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI DX.
In any case, it’s a bummer SEGA won’t be at E3, even if the past couple years have been somewhat underwhelming. Perhaps they’ll have an official presence at Tokyo Game Show, Gamescom or PAX?
