Shenmue fan game has brand new images and they look amazing
While Shenmue fans patiently wait for news regarding a fourth game, one group of fans took matters into their own hands and created their own project. We reported on it back in January of this year: A group of fans have banded together to reimagine Shenmue I and II for PC with Unreal Engine 4.
Titled Shenmue: Dragon & Phoenix Edition Collection, this project plans to reimagine the first two games through the magic of Unreal Engine 4. The Dragon Edition will be a 1:1 port of the Shenmue I & II in Unreal Engine 4, including warts and all. The Dragon Edition preserves the original game experience, and simply polishes up the visuals as best they can.
In a recent development log, they revealed some of the progress they made, and it’s jaw-dropping. You can tell they put a lot of love and passion into this project.
The Phoenix Edition completely reimagines the games with Unreal Engine 4:
All the core assets and gameplay present in Dragon Edition will be present in Phoenix Edition, but with more emphasis on modernizing the game, and adding new features. These features can be something as fundamentally game altering as the stamina system from Shenmue III (although less intrusive, before we get shot for saying that), or as minor as new cassettes in the Tomato Store.
In the video above, you can see a bit of Phoenix Edition in action. The YOU Arcade was completely redone, and the small clip gives you a tour of the progress they’ve made. You see a couple of stills from the video in the gallery below:
As of this report, no official release date was announced for the fan game. For more information about this project, please sign up on their forum.
