Skies of Arcadia Hits Vinyl For Its Eternal Soundtrack Re-Release
Lots of cultural touchstones of yesteryear have been making a comeback in recent times, and this reporter couldn’t be happier. Maybe I’m just an old fart, but whenever I hear a kid ask “what’s VHS?”, or – even more shudderingly awful – asking “what’s a book?” I feel like a part of me has been eroded. This is my upbringing you’re talking about here, foolish youths! And I’m only 23! Think of how the 25-year-olds must feel, the poor blighters.
So now that vinyl LPs, all but forgotten in the 2000s, have seen a resurgence in popularity (ironic or not, I don’t care, I’ll take it) I’m beginning to feel a little more at home. It seems game companies have taken note of the trend, and have started putting out nostalgic tunes from our favourite franchises on those gorgeous rotating plastic discs. That includes SEGA, as their legendary RPG Skies of Arcadia came to vinyl a couple of years ago in the form of an ‘Eternal Soundtrack’.
My dad – a music lecturer by trade and record collector extraordinaire – finally has no excuse not to engage me in my hobby! Fifteen-odd years too late, but hey. Take a gander at the FanGamer page, which has recently gone up due to presumably renewed interest for the LP, here. They promise imminent restocking, so keep yer peelers peeled.
Courtesy of Wayo Records, the lovely bit of merch promises a “delve back into the epic journey of Skies of Arcadia alongside Vyse, Aika, Fina and the Delphinus crew with [this] official reprint of the game’s legendary soundtrack!” Considering we haven’t heard much from the Arcadia crew of late, other than an awesome course in SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed, that’s fine by me.
For your sixty-nine shiny dollars, you’ll get “30 tracks from the game as well as two new piano arrangements, including a new 15-minute medley by Ramon van Engelenhoven. A 24-page booklet including art and new comments from the original team is wrapped up in brand-new art from Itsuki Hoshi, the original designer of Skies of Arcadia.” Now all you’ll need is one of the dwindling number of record players to actually listen to the darn thing.
Right, now let’s get Betamax back while we’re at it.
Are you excited by this LP? Did you pick this up the first time round, or will you be snagging this release instead? Are you a Skies of Arcadia fan? Let us know below!
