Snow Bros. Nick & Tom Special gets a May release date and more

Climate change is obviously a serious thing. But we have some good news! It’s going to get cold towards the end of springtime. The forecast calls for Snow Bros on the Nintendo Switch. As we reported on in February, the beloved classic game is getting a reimagined release. And this week, publisher Clear River Game’s announced Snow Bros. Nick & Tom Special will be available on May 19.

Reminiscent of the arcade greats back in the day, Nick and Tom take on various enemies by hopping across platforms and hurling snowballs, because they’re snowmen of course. As our own Bobby Mills put it “Think Bubble Bobble, but with a different state of H2O.” At the end, they are destined to save their snow princess and live happily wintry after.

What is Snow Bros. Nick & Tom Special?

The original Snow Bros. was first published by developer Toaplan in Japan. Following its success there, it got a worldwide release on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive and NES. Further ports to IOS and Android have proven successful for the franchise.

Along with the release date, a new official gameplay trailer was revealed, showing off more of the upgrades coming to the game, including “enhanced graphics and convenient controls.” It also reintroduced the two-player co-op mode, which appears to be couch co-op. New modes include Monster Mode and Survival Mode, each with their own challenges to overcome.

Both digital and physical versions of the game will be available worldwide for $19.99/$29.99 USD.

If you want something with a bit more frostbite, Limited Run Games will also have the Snow Bros. Nick & Tom Special Collector’s Edition for $89.99 USD, which includes stuffies of both Nick and Tom, a replica of the arcade flyer and more. It goes live for pre-order on April 5, 2022.
