Sonic and the Fallen Star now available, check out the trailer
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it now, and I’d say it again: the Sonic fanbase has some actual geniuses milling about in there. Be it the hardworking folks behind Project 06, a ground-up remake of Sonic 2006 that fixes… well, everything, to a similar effort targeting Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, to reams upon reams of wonderful fanart and animations – it’s all a treat. Hell, Sonic Mania is essentially a fan hack of the Genesis games with the SEGA logo slapped on it, and that worked out splendidly. So it should come as no surprise that the hedgehog’s loyal followers have cranked out another gem. This time, it’s called Sonic and the Fallen Star (no relation to the Asterix book of the same name, my dear European readers) from StarDrop, and it’s available now.
Check out the trailer for the game below:
Right from the off, you can tell this isn’t your average fangame. There’s been some serious effort put in; the pixel-art environments really pop, there are actual Sonic Rush-esque cutscenes, and Sonic himself is rocking more frames of animation than you could shake a Tyson Hesse at. Pack in some boss fights, a catchy soundtrack and some classic special stages, and you’re onto a winner. SEGA: hire this… well, you know the rest.
Sonic and the Fallen Star can be downloaded, as can its soundtrack, from this site. Make sure to give the devs our regards if you find your way to grabbing a copy because of little ol’ moi. And if they fancy popping in for a chat about the development? We won’t say no!
