Sonic Boom comic series to end after Worlds Unite

Archie Comics announced on Twitter today that the Sonic Boom comic book series would end after issue 11, after the Worlds Unite crossover event comes to a close.

As stated in the above tweet, the characters will continue on in other books, but it will be interesting to see how long that lasts and in what form.

The controversial Sonic Boom games were met with widespread criticism after SEGA revealed significant design changes to many of its key characters, which included giving Knuckles a more muscular look and the entire cast wearing bandage wraps on their bodies.

Once released Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Shattered Crystal were met with commercial and critical failure, being some of the lowest selling and reviewed games in series history. Rise of Lyric producer Stephen Frost came onto the SEGA Nerdcast to discuss some of those issues and the positive things the games did right.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the Sonic Boom TV show, which has been the most successful pillar of the Sonic Boom IP, maintaining good ratings through its season, despite Cartoon Network changing its time slot.

In any case, it looks like Archie Comics is ready to move past Sonic Boom and focus on its other Sonic comics.
