Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps part 2 debuts on YouTube
You have no idea how agonizingly I had to suppress my British desire to type ‘Sonic Colours’ in that title. The sacrifices I make for you all.
For those simply left confused by said title, I’ll give you the skinny. In the run-up to Sonic Colors Ultimate, the highly anticipated HD remaster of the 2010 Wii smash, SEGA have put together a couple of animated shorts starring everyone’s favourite characters – Sonic, Tails, Eggman, and… Blue Wisp #726. He was always the best one, after all. Very, erm, cubey.
These little cartoons serve to provide context to some of the remaster’s new modes, such as explaining why Metal Sonic is now out and about in the Interstellar Amusement Park, or how the Jade Wisp has been magically retconned into existence. The animation is helmed by Sonic vet Tyson Hesse, whose gorgeous fluidity is on full display, and the voices are given life by a familiar cast, including a returning Roger Craig Smith and Mike “I’ll Be Eggman Until I’m Dead And Buried” Pollock. Check out part 2 of the mini series below.
In Part 1, we saw Tails and Sonic respond to a Wisp’s cry for help after a break-in to one of Eggman’s facilities went awry, with the doctor siccing Metal Sonic on the poor aliens. Here, the story continues and concludes with a requisite battle between forces organic and robotic. Also, we see Orbot and Cubot calling Metal ‘big bro’ and that just melts me right where it counts (my spleen, if you were wondering.)
