Stick with us for updates as they happen.
A bit of Sonic history
Announced in May, Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a remaster of the original 2010 SEGA game. The next Sonic game in the franchise after Sonic Unleashed, Colors featured the expected platform gameplay, collecting of golden rings and trouncing enemies as in previous titles. Taking into consideration criticism of prior games, developers Sonic Team and Dimps worked to make the gameplay more balanced. The result was a colorful, fast track experience with a solo Sonic at the helm, without the gimmicks like swordplay and addition playable characters fans had disliked in previous titles.
It was developed with a more casual audience in mind, particularly hoping to appeal to a “younger” fan base, according to producer Takashi Iizuka. Sonic Colors debuted on Nintendo Wii and DS, with each version having special features unique to its platform.
Return to the Ultimate thrill ride
Sonic Colors: Ultimate, developed by Blind Squirrel Games, is sticking with the precedent set by its predecessor. With the increase in younger fans to the franchise after the success of titles like Sonic Mania, Team Sonic Racing and the new Sonic movie, the studio is looking to add more content. The remaster was announced alongside of a two part animated miniseries, Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps, with the unforgettable Roger Craig Smith as Sonic.
Sonic Colors: Ultimate will follow the same story line as the original. Join Sonic as he navigates evil Dr. Eggman’s giant interstellar amusement park. Incredible rides, colorful attractions, and amazing music make each level a sight to see. If only, that egghead wasn’t using alien creatures called the Wisp to power his park of up to no good schemes. Now Sonic must free the Wisps and put an end to Dr. Eggman’s machinations the only way a Hedgehog with super speed can: by going faster!
(B)ring on the new features!
Explore six different worlds, each with their own unique challenges and dangerous enemies. Along the way, collect colorful Wisps who will give Sonic incredible powers to help him along the way. The original eight are still there, with a welcomed addition -Jade Wisp. Described as mysterious, an enigmatic Jade Wisp hails from Team Sonic Racing and “grants Sonic the ability to pass through walls easily and levitate like a ghost.” With such a repertoire of powers at his disposal, Sonic will be unstoppable!
Sonic Colors: Ultimate also features a new game mode: ‘Rival Rush’ Mode. Metal Sonic has returned to wreck havoc and only Sonic can stop him. Challenge Metal Sonic to a head-to head race and unlock valuable rewards.
Refined controls, improved frame rate and a fully remixed soundtrack will help the player navigate worlds like Sweet Mountain, Aquarium Park and more.
