Since SEGA revealed the first teaser at this year’s Sonic Central livestream, fans awaited information about the new Sonic game. The cryptic trailer revealed very little about the new entry aside from a 2022 release window. The mystery only intensified over the course of the year as SEGA remained silent on the new game.
The silence unofficially broke when fans discovered that SEGA filed a trademark for the name Sonic Frontiers in October. However, the company themselves have still yet to make an official announcement.
However, two recent discoveries now give fans something new to go on. The first major finding is the registration of a Sonic Frontiers domain name. Currently, following the link takes you to a page displaying an error 403 message. As of now, access to view the page’s contents are completely denied.
Aside from the domain, another hint that points towards incoming Sonic Frontiers news is an update on the Sonic Steam page. Reddit user JamKingVAC recently shared the discovery that the game count on the page was updated from 34 to 35. Although the change may relate to the officially announced retro collection Sonic Origins, signs point more towards Frontiers.
Both the Steam page update and the domain name registration occurred this past weekend. With these updates coupled with The Game Awards coming up this Thursday, an official reveal for Sonic Frontiers appears imminent. The theory is even more plausible if we take Game Awards host Geoff Keighley into account. Keighley previously stated that the show’s reveals will be in the double digits. And what better way to cap off The Blue Blur’s 30th anniversary in 2021 than with the official reveal of Sonic Frontiers?
Do you think the new Sonic the Hedgehog game will be revealed on Thursday’s Game Awards?
