Sonic Origins will be fixed, SEGA assures fans
As any halfway-decent psychiatrist will tell you, the first step in fixing something that’s broken is acknowledging it’s broken to begin with. That maxim is now being ably, and surprisingly (given how little it’s been applied in the past) applied by SEGA regarding the much-maligned Sonic Origins. Even though it is, at its heart, little more than a glorified collection of the same Classic Sonic titles we’ve been enjoying for literal decades, upon release the game was bashed from every conceivable angle.
Why? Well, the music’s botched, the ports are buggy, the altered playstyles are awkward, and the flashy UI couldn’t hide the fact that there aren’t enough substantial additions to these reheated leftovers to warrant the pricetag. And these are but a few examples.
But, as mentioned, it seems SEGA are listening to the fan discontent. Per Eurogamer, they’ve assured gamers that “the bug-laden Sonic Origins will be improved.” Hey, their words, not mine. In a statement posted to Twitter last night, ever-present damage-controller Katie Chrzanowski stated that “the publisher had heard fan feedback and was working on various fixes.”
“Hey! Thanks for the patience!” she wrote. “The team’s been listening and is working on fixing a variety of issues right now. We’ll make sure to get some more official messaging out once we have more info for everyone.”
Humbled Origins
As a reminder, it isn’t just the fans who weren’t altogether pleased with the state Sonic Origins shipped in. It emerged that the team behind the ports, Headcannon, were all but rushed into turning over a build they were not satisfied with; sentiments echoed by Simon “Stealth” Thomley, who accused SEGA of causing “wild bugs” when they took over production. “Integration introduced some wild bugs that conventional logic would have one believe were our responsibility – a lot of them aren’t,” Thomley claimed. Perhaps it was these harsh words from an internal source that spurred SEGA into action, or maybe it really was the tortured cries of their long-suffering fanbase. Either way, we’ve got it on the record that fixes are coming, so we can only hope they don’t disappoint.
