Sonic Rings series talks with gamers including VTuber Inugami Korone

As we enjoy Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30th anniversary this year, SEGA has found new and fun ways to shine lights on just how far the blue master of faster has impacted the gaming world. One such way it has done this is a YouTube series. Teaming up with GFuel, SEGA’s Sonic Rings featuring interviews with fans, content creators and voice actors including Aoi Yuki from Sonic Boom, who have been influenced heavily by the franchise.

Gamers were asked to see how fast they could complete Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog game.

The first episode premiered in July, with gamer Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil. Each video focuses on what Sonic has brought to the individual’s life. This includes fond memories of their first interactions with the games, favorite memorabilia and, in some cases, an art challenge. The interviews, about 4 minutes in length, show off the dedication many of us feel. Especially if we’ve been around the franchise for decades. At times emotional, as in the case of WWE star Xavier Woods (Ep.6), it is easy to see how much the little blue dude and his friends mean to them.

A unique perspective

The latest interview is uniquely different. Virtual Tuber (VTuber) Inugami Korone (Ep.9), from Hololive talent agency is unlike the others in several ways. Using her virtual avatar as her communicator, she is a newcomer to the Sonic games, beginning in January 2021. After hearing how much her fans enjoyed the games, she played the first Sonic game for the Mega Drive (Genisis). She said she found it to be challenging, but exhilarating. Now a dedicated fan, she’s on the fast track to catching up with Aaron Kurtzer (Ep.4), or “The Sonic Guy.” Then again, his immense knowledge and impressive collection of memorabilia might take years to amass.

Check out the full interview below, and catch up with the rest of the episodes on Sonic the Hedgehog’s official YouTube channel.

A bit nerdy, a bit punk rock princess, and a whole lot of mom, I'm constantly in motion. I have an enthusiasm for gaming and the cultural complexities of entertainment, both past and present. I don’t believe in limiting myself to one kind of genre in books, comics, manga, anime, music or movies. I prefer to seek out hidden gems in panned pieces, uniqueness in the mundane and new outlooks on nuances.
