Sony adds 1440p monitor support to PlayStation 5
The software update is live today!
Early this morning, Sony announced the newest system software update for the PlayStation 5 that enables new features including 1440p monitor support.
The 1440p video output feature on the PS5 requires a TV or PC monitor that supports 1440p/60Hz, or 1440p/60Hz and 120Hz. The blog also notes that player results will vary depending on the individual game. The new compatible resolution output is especially valuable to PC players, who requested the feature since the console’s launch.
Alongside this highly requested feature, the massive software update also brings a number of other new features to the console. Some of the improvements include social features. One ability allows players to request a Share Screen from another party member. You can also now more easily view new friends’ profiles and receive notifications to join games directly from party chat.
In addition the update brings the ability to compare 3D and stereo audio on the same screen. You can also more easily access in-progress Activities from game hubs. Finally, Sony detailed future updates it plans to implement later this month.
One of the new features is actually currently already available in Preview for PS5 owners registered in the United States and United Kingdom. The YouTube Voice Command search enables players to find videos on YouTube no matter where they are on the console, even during gameplay. To activate the feature, you simply need to say, “Hey PlayStation, find [keyword] on YouTube.” This automatically oepens the YouTube app with relevant search results.
Additionally, new features will roll out globally this month for the PS App on iOS and Android. One such feature allows players to launch a PS Remote Play Session directly through the app. In addition, a feature similar to the console Share Screen option will come to the app that allows players to request party members on PS5 to share their screen through the app. This will let you watch your friends’ gameplay directly from your smartphone.
