Sony has bought EVO, EVO Online to return this August

EVOlution

In a shock to the fighting game community, Sony and RTS have announced today they have acquired the fighting game tournament EVO through a joint venture partnership. You can see the statement below from the official Twitter account.

After a rough year of missing the tournament due to COVID and horrible allegations against its former co-founder, it is refreshing to see that the competition isn’t going anywhere thanks to this new partnership. The first EVO Online under the partnership will take place August 6-8 and 13-15.

The games will be Tekken 7, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Mortal Kombat 11, and the upcoming Guilty Gear -Strive-. You can find more info about registration on Evo’s website. Hopefully, we can see that rumored new Virtua Fighter game down the road for EVO in the future!
