Sony plans to release 10 new live service games by 2026

Sony also looks to expand on multiplatform game development.

After the news broke that Sony would acquire Bungie for $3.6 billion, people wondered what to expect from the partnership. Fortunately, fans can relax with the knowledge that Bungie titles like Destiny will remain multiplatform. Instead, Sony aims to utilize Bungie’s expertise in creating live service games.

The company first hinted at this goal during an interview with GameIndustry. However, now the company revealed how ambitious its plans are. During a recent call to investors, Sony revealed it aims to launch at least 10 live service games by March 2026.

Sony feels confident that Bungie can help them reach this milestone. Through its work on the Destiny franchise, Bungie gained valuable experience with the live service model. As a result, Sony adds it plans for PlayStation Studios to work hand-in-hand with Bungie on new live service titles.

Although people typically associate Sony with PlayStation exclusive titles, the company’s long-term goals actually involve expanding to other platforms. Through Destiny and future IPs developed by Bungie, Sony hopes to push this goal further. Ultimately, the company seeks to increase engagement and acquire new users across a variety of gaming platforms.

In addition, Sony states that the company aims to rapidly grow its first-party game software revenue. In fact, the company plans to increase its software revenue by more than double by 2025.
