Sony planting a tree for every special trophy in Horizon Forbidden West
“Just like how Aloy fights to save the Earth in the game, we can do something together to help our planet.”
Horizon Forbidden West officially launches today: Feb. 18, 2022. With its release, Sony offers a special deal for the game’s players. By earning a specific trophy in the game, Sony plans to plant a tree for every player who manages to unlock it. Way to go, Sony!
Horizon Forbidden West “Play and Plant” Program
Partnering up with the Arbor Day Foundation, Sony announced their “Play and Plant” program for the game’s release.
“For the release of Horizon Forbidden West, we want to do something to help nature… with you. Just like how Aloy fights to save the Earth in the game, we can do something together to help our planet. “
Every player who unlocks the “Reach the Daunt” trophy plants a tree through Sony. If you’re worried it’ll be hard to obtain—don’t be. Players don’t have to go out of their way to earn this trophy; all they have to do is finish the tutorial part of the game. Simple, easy, and works towards helping the environment.
In the U.S., the program plans to cover three different reforestation projects. Sony aims to plant trees in Sheep Fire Private Lands in California, Douglas County Forest in Wisconsin, and Torreya State Park in Florida.
The return of grey wolves in Sheep Fire Private Lands means they rely on the forest to develop, and the forestation project aims to settle them back into their natural environment. Sony chose Douglas County as well because deforestation has caused the forest’s watershed protection abilities to become destabilized. In Torreya State Park, the decreased pine population increases fire risk, which is why the project is so important.
It’s easy: get started!
Sony’s “Play and Plant” project ends either after all three restoration projects are complete or until March 25. The project completes with approximately 288K trees planted—that means 288k players. It’s awesome seeing a company promote such a large-scale project, especially to support the messages of the game.
Whether you play PS4 or PS5, anyone playing the game can help plant some trees. For those of you planning to play Horizon Forbidden West, start it up quickly to be a part of this movement. I know I’ll be waiting for my special release pre-order so I can take part in this program.
