Sony’s new PlayStation Plus subscription service launches this June!
Subscribers will get access to a library of over 700 games!
This morning, Sony officially revealed their answer to Microsoft’s Game Pass in the form of a new streamlined PlayStation Plus.
The new subscription service merges the features of the current PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now plans into one membership. As speculated back in December, the new service will also feature three unique tiers of purchase. Each tier features additional benefits for players to enjoy.
The first tier, PlayStation Plus Essential, will simply feature the same benefits current Plus members enjoy. Players can download two free monthly games and enjoy multiple exclusive discounts. In addition, players will keep access to cloud storage and online multiplayer. The Essential tier costs $9.99 per month.
The next tier up is called Plus Extra. Under this tier, players can enjoy additional benefits including a library of up to 400 games. The library will feature PlayStation exclusives, along with select third-party titles. For $14.99 a month, players can enjoy both the standard online benefits of Essential, along with a large catalogue of downloadable games.
Finally, there’s the Premium tier. Along with retaining the benefits of the previous two tiers, Premium members gain access nearly 340 additional titles as well. Additionally, the extra games included in Premium will feature backwards compatible titles from previous console generations. In addition to cloud streaming options for PS3 games, players can download classics from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PSP. The Premium tier costs $17.99 per month.
Although this new service will completely dissolve PlayStation Now, Sony will grandfather current members into the new Plus offering at no additional cost upon launch. In addition, PlayStation will phase in the new service throughout the month of June with a regional approach, beginning in Asia.

Sony additionally emphasizes its priority on bringing players quality games to increase the service’s value. The company adds that it will feature both first and third-party titles with a regularly refreshed library.
The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these new tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart.
