MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic will receive a new expansion before the end of this year that further builds on player decisions.
The new update, Legacy of the Sith, follows the story of rogue Sith Lord Darth Malgus. Players must chase down the rogue Sith Lord to the watery planet of Manaan. If that’s not enough, the expansion also introduces a storyline that involves a civil war among the Mandalorians.
Like previous expansions to Star Wars: The Old Republic, Legacy of the Sith places a strong emphasis on player decisions. Choices made in early parts of the game impact how the story plays out well into the endgame. Polygon recently conducted an interview with creative director Charles Boyd. In the interview, Boyd discussed the importance of creating memorable moral decisions for players to make in each expansion.
We’ll know the general premise of where [the story is] going, and we think, ‘okay, well, what would be the most interesting moral choice?’ Sometimes they aren’t even Dark Side or Light Side; it’s about loyalty. Then, we build the story around that and work backwards so we can make it less about morals or your character and more about you personally engaging as much as possible.

In addition to the new endgame story, Legacy of the Sith will also bring significant changes to early game content as well. One major change is the character creator. For the first time ever, players will have the ability to mix and match weapons and skills from multiple classes. As opposed to locking in a certain skillset, players can combine tech abilities, while also mastering the Force. This change makes replaying The Old Republic from the beginning more appealing than ever.
