Street Fighter player Daigo Umehara finds arcade he was beat up in

Daigo Umehara finds the arcade that shaped his life.

Legendary Street Fighter champion Daigo Umehara recently found the arcade he was attacked in as a kid on Google Maps.

YouTuber FGC Translated posted a video containing the clip from a recent livestream where Umehara found the notorious arcade. In the video, Umehara searches Google Maps and calls out in amazement as he finds the infamous door. When telling stories of the arcade incident, Umehara always mentions the unique door that set this arcade apart from contemporaries. “I don’t think it’s the same arcade anymore. But it still has the same door!” Umehara said.

The video posted by FGC Translated also contains part of a speech Umehara gave describing the importance of that arcade. At 13-years-old, Umehara defeated a grown adult in a game of Street Fighter. The man’s embarrassment resulted in physically assaulting Umehara.

For a while since, Umehara avoided that arcade. He instead played at a number of different arcades until he decided it was time to face his trauma. When Umehara visited the location again, he hesitated at the door. He left himself an ultimatum here. In his mind, he either had to face his fears of returning to that arcade or give up fighting games altogether.

Umehara chose to enter the building, and the rest is history. He recounts this moment as the one that defined his life going forward. Umehara now represents Team Beast and Red Bull eSports. He has competed in many competitions for fighting games and won multiple championships.
