Streets of Rage 4 will have 12 playable characters from previous games, original soundtracks

We’ve long wondered whether developer Lizardcube would have any tricks up its sleeve with Streets of Rage 4, similarly like how they did with Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap’s retro graphics.

Well, today they finally revealed a ton of new details about the fourth entry in SEGA’s classic beat ’em up series. The game will feature unlockable pixel-style characters from the previous trilogy, with movesets and abilities from each game. For instance, characters from Streets of Rage 2 will call the cops for back-up with their special moves and Streets of Rage 3 characters can run and roll.

In total, there are 12 retro characters that can be unlocked, to include fan favorites like Skate, Dr. Zan and Max, which brings the total playable characters to 17.

Additionally, the game will feature the ability to change to the original soundtracks from Streets of Rage 1 and 2.

Streets of Rage 4 will release on the PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch for $24.99.
