Streets of Rage inspired beat ’em up The Takeover coming to Switch
Is this the Streets of Rage sequel SEGA fans have been waiting for?
As much as it pains me to admit it, the likelihood of SEGA ever developing a new entry in the Streets of Rage series is pretty slim. There’s been several developers who’ve created proofs of concept over the years, and they look pretty awesome, but for whatever reason, SEGA just doesn’t seem interested in the series anymore.
Thankfully, an indie developer named Pelikan13, who’s previously developed ’90s Arcade Racer and some awesome Sonic fan games, like Sonic Fan Remix, has been hard at work on The TakeOver, which is more or less a Streets of Rage spiritual successor.
The game has been available on Steam Early Access for quite awhile now, and has been receiving frequent updates, but we’ve just learned today that he has plans to release it on the Nintendo Switch in the future.
If you can’t wait for the Switch version, you can always purchase the Early Access version for $10.99 and get back to kicking ass in the streets. The only bummer is there aren’t any of Yuzo Koshiro’s iconic beats. 🙁
