Sumo-developed Hotshot Racing Revealed

Remember the hype for The ’90s Arcade Racer, aka ’90s Super GP, the Kickstarted game that promised a revival of classic arcade racing the way we remembered it in, well, the ’90s? Those were good times.

Then Nicalis happened.

Anyway, it was only a matter of time before someone noticed all the hype that had been built around that title with no payoff, so others have stepped in to deliver. One such title is Horizon Chase Turbo (we reviewed it in Issue 7), while another is the just-announced Hotshot Racing, which is coming our way from Curve Digital through a partnership with Lucky Mountain Games and our friends at Sumo Digital, who you might recognize as the developers behind OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast and the recent trilogy of Sonic racing games, which celebrated their tenth anniversary this past Sunday (stay tuned for more on that).

From Curve Digital’s website:

Hotshot Racing channels classic arcade racers sporting colorful polygonal visuals, boost-fuelled drift gameplay and a silky smooth 60 frames per second in the game’s single-player modes regardless of platform.

Hotshot Racing is set to emulate and expand upon the classic ‘90s arcade racing game formula featuring eight different hotshot drivers to choose from (each with their own personality and multiple varied four-wheeled rides), 16 personality-filled sun-baked tracks from across the globe, and multiple game modes for players to prove their driving prowess.

The platforms they speak of? Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam, where you can currently add it to your wish list. There is no hard release date yet, but they’re saying we’ll be able to pull up to the starting line this Spring.

As he points out, the game is still in development, so contents are subject to change for the release. But then, with patches and such, that just kind of applies even beyond that, doesn’t it? Regardless, we here at Mega Visions are very excited for a new racing game from Sumo Digital!
