The Simpsons: Hit and Run gets a fan-made remaster

Remastering games from the sixth generation of consoles seems to be all the rage right now. And why not! That generation had a massive amount of hidden gems and cult classics that are worthy of new life with the technological advancements we’ve made in video game optimization and graphics. One game that gets brought up a lot by fans for a remaster is The Simpsons: Hit and Run.

If you never played it, Hit and Run was a parody of Grand Theft Auto III that was a lot more fun and competent than people expected.

People have been coming out of the woodwork now asking for a proper The Simpsons: Hit and Run remaster and New Zealand-based Unreal developer and YouTuber Reuben “Reubs” Ward has kind of delivered! Ward gave himself the goal of remastering the first level in one week. And he did it!

You can check out the results below.

It’s always impressive to see what fans can do with passion for a game. It’s wild to see the cleanup work that Ward was able to do in one week for one mission. It makes the idea of a full remaster not seem impossible. Heck, even the game’s original lead designer Joe McGinn left a comment below the video. “Amazing what you accomplished! Really gives a taste of what a full modern remaster could be. Impressive work,” he said.

Can a Hit And Run remake really happen?

Will a Simpsons: Hit and Run remaster ever happen? Hard to say. Licensed games from the past are always tricky. You never know if the studio who made it is still open, or where the rights to the game could be. In the case of Hit And Run, the game was developed by Vivendi Games, which is now owned by Activision Blizzard.

So since this isn’t Call Of Duty, might seem like a long shot for a proper remaster unless the rights owners of The Simpsons video games work out a deal to give another studio a crack at it. I’ve seen crazier things happen in this industry so never say never!
