This HDMI Dreamcast adapter needs to happen

There have been certain ways to upscale your Dreamcast’s video signal in the past, but YouTube user electronash is working on an HDMI board that will make connecting the Dreamcast to your HDTV so much easier.

Electronash wrote that the HDMI board isn’t simply a RGB to HDMI adapter but a fully custom board that utilizes an FPGA and HDMI transmitter chip that fits underneath the Dreamcast’s GD drive and “connects directly to the digital video bus on the DC’s DAC using Kynar wire.” The Dreamcast’s digital audio also passes through the HDMI board, which will be connected to your TV via a new port on the back of the Dreamcast.

While the final board design is a couple months away from completion, electronash and his team plan on offering the HDMI board for sale on a limited scale at some point in the future.

What’s more, he wrote that the HDMI board could be used for other handhelds and systems, like the Game Gear, 3DO and Neo Geo.

He has quite a few Dreamcast videos to show off what his HDMI board can do, including Daytona, Looney Tunes Space Race, Sonic Adventure 2 and Crazy Taxi.
