Times a changing: Yakuza creator steps down as SEGA CCO

A lot went down in the SEGA universe this week, including some news from the Yakuza realm. According to the latest report from SEGA, Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi steps down as their Chief Creative Officer. Nagoshi will take on the role of Creative Director, starting April 1, 2021.

In addition to Nagoshi’s role change, SEGA announced additional management and business restructures. Their pachinko slots and games/arcades departments are being split into two separate companies. They will still be under the banner of Sega Sammy Corporation.

As for management, Karuki Satomi will be SEGA’s CEO, while Hajime Satomi becomes an honorary Chairman of the Board. According to SEGA, these changes help “transform its business structure to adapt to the external environment.” Considering SEGA asked over 600 employers to voluntarily retire last November, the restructuring could be a continued response to Covid-19.
