Ubisoft clarifies that Roller Champions isn’t canceled
It’s been a rough go for Roller Champions since it was officially launched in May. At first, the game was well received in its beta testing by players. But the launch saw a monetization and cosmetics charging disaster that turned off many of the same players that praised it in beta. The development team has been working hard to address all the issues. So, I’m sure they were a little taken aback over the weekend.
Rumors began that Ubisoft was looking to cancel the new free-to-play title after the completion of Season 3. It seems it caught enough steam to warrant a response from Ubisoft and the development team. Both have come out and confirmed that the game is still fully supported. You can check out the tweet below from the official Roller Champions Twitter.
Can Roller Champions be saved?
This really isn’t fair to the devs. It’s one thing to work tirelessly to fix the game that got wrecked by publisher decisions. But then, to wake up and see everyone already commenting on your demise more than the game is not something you were hoping for. It’s not their fault that people ran with that rumor like wildfire. That blame lies on Ubisoft’s previous decision-making.
It’s been clear to the gaming community that Ubisoft desperately wants a Free-To-Play success. This is their second attempt after Hyper Scape. And, much like Roller Champions, that game saw demise from bad publishing decisions and little marketing.
Hopefully, the devs can make Ubisoft realize that over-monetizing the game out the gate is a shot in the foot. You need to get the fan base willing to pay over time because they enjoy the game that much. So I wish the dev team the best of luck in getting through the publishers’ heads and fixing the game.
Roller Champions is available now on all major platforms and PC. Do you think the dev team can save the game at this rate? Let us know in the comments below.
