It was announced by Microsoft that Yakuza 6: The Song of Life will be releasing on PC via Xbox Games Pass. The once PlayStation 4 exclusive was launched in North America back in 2018. With the release of Yakuza Remastered, you could play the entire series no matter what your platform of choice. Along with Yakuza 6, fan favorites Undertale and Neir: Automata are coming to the platform as well.
The Yakuza series is highly acclaimed and has become a “Greatest Hit” on every platform it has touched. Entering its 16th year, it has spanned over 4 console generations. Counting the re-releases of Yakuza, and Yakuza 2 (Kiwami, and Kiwami 2) it has a average score of 81 out of 100 on Metacritic, 82% on GameRankings, and 38 out of 40 on Famitsu.
The lead protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, has been used outside of the series as well. Becoming a playable character in ProjectXZone, and featured in a film adaptation Like A Dragon: Prologue. In the movie he was portrayed by former All-Japan Pro Wrestling Triple-Crown Champion, Masakatsu Funaki. The popularity has grown so much in the West, fighting game fans want to have Kiryu show up in the popular fighting game, Tekken. In an interview with Red Bull France, Sega’s Chief Creative Officer, Toshihiro Nagoshi, shut down the possibility stating the following:
We do get this request a lot. Of course there are exceptions, but fighting games generally have female characters, and personally I don’t really want to see Kiryu beating up women.
