Yoshitaka Amano draws his take on Batman

The Dark Knight in Final Fantasy style.

Yoshitaka Amano is a household name for Final Fantasy fans. From the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary poster to promotional art for Final Fantasy XII, he makes his way around the franchise. Credited on multiple Final Fantasy games for Character Design, Graphic Design, and more, we certainly love all his beautiful artwork. Now, comic publisher DC decided they wanted Amano’s artwork for a new Batman cover.

Yoshitaka Amano draws Batman

For Issue #1063 of DC’s Detective Comics, Amano created a gorgeous piece of art featuring Batman cradling another character. It certainly has that Final Fantasy feeling to it, especially with the blue highlights. The illustration acts as an alternative cover, with the standard issue cover art by Evan Cagle.

Amano’s Batman cover stands as a 1:25 variant, meaning for every 25 standard editions, one of his will be printed. This may make it a rare find for comic collectors.

Though we know Amano for his beloved Final Fantasy artwork, the realm of comics isn’t unfamiliar to him. He drew a variant cover for Harley Quinn in the past for Harley Quinn #1. Fans are still able to pick up that issue for $19.99.

For those of you unfamiliar with Batman, Detective Comics is a comic book series published by DC Comics. The famous Batman acts as one of the main superhero characters emerging from the 1937 debut. Issue #1063 features Bruce Wayne, Batman’s alter ego, and Harvey Dent, also known as the supervillain Two-Face.

Not too pricey, but might be hard to find

The issue goes on sale August 23, 2022. Standard editions typically go for $4.99, while the variants go for $5.99. Of course, one this issue disappears from the market, that price will surely hike up in resale value. If you’re a Batman fan or just want some beautiful artwork by Yoshitaka Amano, be sure to pick this up.
