Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon praises Captain McKay's work.

Stop motion animator Captain McKay recently created a short video showcasing a new Kung Lao figure in action.

The six-second video shows off Storm Collectibles’ new Kung Lao action figure displaying some impressive acrobatics. Mortal Kombat’s Kung Lao first runs up and performs a jump kick. Afterwards, Kung Lao braces for impact against the ground as he falls. Upon getting up, he performs some spinning kicks before ending with his classic win animation. You can watch the video below.

The video also gained the attention of Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon. Boon shared the video on his Twitter and sent praise to Captain McKay.

Ed Boon’s response

Boon’s praise is well-deserved, since stop motion animation is a time-consuming process that requires a lot of talent. Unlike other types of videos, recorders have to reposition the figure for each individual movement and take a series of photos, known as frames. In addition, the editing process often includes adding both audio and special effects. Although the Kung Lao animation is short, you cannot understate his effort.

However, Captain McKay is extremely passionate about action figures and stop motion videos. His YouTube channel features a variety of action figure reviews, as well as stop motion animations. Mortal Kombat fans will also love McKay’s dioramas, including one themed after the Courtyard. You can watch his Between the Frames video below.
